x64 system files modification 

Another wait is over. Now your Windows XP x64 Edition (aka 2003 in XP shell) and Windows Vista x64 Edition can fully support system files modification. Before I explain how hard to make x64 system files support, let me tell you that applications in this version supports x64 now and you can skip this long paragraph. Since Windows XP x64 Edition doesn't have sysnative folder for x86 application, I have to find workaround solutions that can work with both OS and I found subst command-line that redirection doesn't affact. However, reshacker-like application for x64 is required and free so I picked Resourcer though it needs .NET Framework 2.0 and XP x64 doesnt have it coming by default in some case but I have no choice but to bet in Resourcer and modify its command-line code to work with resources I have. I sent the portion of my little nasty code as I want to keep changes minimum to the author of Resourcer and hope he will be OK with GPL license. Maybe? 

Localization support 

Yet another very very long wait is over :D. This feature has been requested for since earlier versions of Vista Transformation Pack (Maybe even Longhorn Transformation Pack). As you can see that there will be always significant changes in program UI each time I release, making translation file will surely be some kind of troublesome job to track for changes and fix it. Since Seven Transformation Pack, it appears to has lesser changes in program UI. This version shall be concluded as stable for program UI and functions so I decided to start translation support in this version. You can contribute the localization support by posting your modified vilang.sif in community so people can host a mirror with localized file you provided. 

Major updates in 3rd-party applications 

I don't know if this should really be called for another wait is over and I'm starting to feel tired talking like this. There're 3 applications that got updated in this release which are ViStart, TrueTransparency and ViGlance. For ViStart, it's more like rewriting than updating so not much of features updates in this release but dramatic improvement in performance and stability. It may contain some new bugs with winkey and new keyboard for now but please bear with it for now since that's all I can do with my caliber. For TrueTransparency, it's surprisingly more stable in this version so I decided to unmark this application from unsafe list as I missed features of Aeroshake and Aerosnap. This version also come with long-anticipated feature "blur" supported so you'd better update for sure. For ViGlance, it has some bugs fixed like incompatibilities with new ViStart 7 and saving pinning items. 

Well, that's all for 4.0 release in brief. Though previous version is called perfection but this version is something beyond the perfection. Have you seen any pack that does system files modification for both XP/Vista and x86/x64? No, right? So this is an innovation based on perfection. Ahhh, seems like I'm getting little cocky from finishing this challenging task. Let's just download and enjoy the release now :P.

How-To Write Code for Different Android Versions in Your App

Fragmentation has been a big issue in Android since the beginning and everyone has different views about it. I personally don't think that there is an effective way to avoid fragmentation at the rate Android is growing at. So, fragmentation is something we should, as devs, adapt to in our developer frame of mind. it's actually not that hard to write code that handle different Android versions inside your application. I know, we can always publish different apks to handle different android versions, but this may not be the optimal choice in all cases. So, here is little code snippet showing how to handle fragmentation to a certain extent in Android:

Galaxy S4 should hit the stores in April 2013, might feature unbreakable display

Samsung could release a breakthrough smartphone with an unbreakable display soon. Set to release the next model of its immensely popular S series, the Galaxy S4, Samsung might or might not add this flexible screen technology to the upcoming flagship.

According to Reuters, Samsung is currently working on the Galaxy S4 under the Project J name, after its mobile division chief J.K. Shin. The Galaxy S4 is aimed for release in April 2013 and is expected to feature a more powerful quad-core processor than the one on the Galaxy S3, a 13-megapixel camera, and a 441ppi display, to take on the full HD devices introduced by HTC, Sharp, and others.

According to several analysts including UBS’s Nicolas Gaudois, Samsung is accelerating the release of the Galaxy S4. The target window for store availability is April 2013, unlike Galaxy S3 which was released in May 2012.

While the chances of Samsung using an unbreakable display in the Galaxy S4 aren’t that great, Gaudios still thinks Samsung might be aiming to introduce the new screen in first half of 2013: ”We believe preparations for volume manufacturing of unbreakable plastic substrate displays continue. All in all, we could see a strong products push in the high-end in the first half, followed by other releases.”

Another analyst, Mark Newman from Stanford Bernstein said that Samsung might introduce the technology on the Galaxy S4 or the Galaxy S5 which will debut in 2014. Newman said ”eventually, they’ll have unbreakable and flexible displays. Either the Galaxy S4 or S5 will have unbreakable and even possibly flexible and foldable displays by 2014. That’s going to be a game-changer.”

Adding flexible displays to its mobile devices will give Samsung an edge over other manufacturers. But the breakthrough could also improve the company’s reputations, which was tarnished by the recent accusations of copying.

Ubuntu for Android to debut today?

We are sure many of you would love to install Ubuntu on your Android device and try out a new operating system just for a change. For those eagerly waiting for such a release Canonical has announced that “all-new Ubuntu product” will be released on January 2nd, which happens to be today.

While Canonical has only revealed that the product will be released today, it is still unknown what this Ubuntu product is like and what it will have to offer. At this point in time we could only guess but we can expect that the release Canonical is talking about is Ubuntu for Android, which has been in the pipeline for quite some time now.

The announcement is definitely very interesting but don’t get too excited, as the possibility of an Ubuntu phone or tablet is very unlikely. Canonical founder had already made it clear that the operating system won’t be ready for use on phones or tablets until the year 2014. As for this Android release, we suspect that it could make it easier for Ubuntu users to sync their Android smartphones and tablets easily with their computer.

Also, Ubuntu for Android could be activated when the device is docked to an Ubuntu computer, after which users will see whatever they are doing on Android like an instance on Ubuntu. This will be helpful in giving users an idea of what Ubuntu for mobile devices will be like.

Ubuntu is currently running a timer on its official site, which as of this time or writing says that “So close, you can touch it” with the timer sitting at around 1:30 hours remaining. We will find out what Ubuntu has up its sleeves in next few hours.

In other words, it will close other programs that are currently running (if you choose to), shutdown non-critical services, turn off background processes, intensify processor performance and free up some memory, all these being reversible. It will also keep all the features of your Windows OS ready for the moment when you want to get back to normal mode. 

The interface is very minimalistic, it has a list of processes that can be shut down during gaming and check boxes that allow users to select which one will be shut down. To test the application stability, I disabled all the listed processes and everything went safe. Beside, the app was able to regain around 350 megabytes of memory which on lower-end systems might create noticeable differences while gaming. After playing a game for a while, when I switched back to normal, the app was able to restart all the services and everything was running as it did before Game Booster was enabled. 

What I found very interesting in this program is the possibility to defragment the directories of a game of you choice, in order to start and run more quickly. You can choose from a list of the detected games or you can manually choose a folder of your choice.
