Windows Blue is the next version of Microsoft's OS, changing the way the software giant releases updates - here we reveal what's known about the next version of Windows and what it means for users.
Microsoft has officially confirmed Blue, which is an extensive update to Windows 8 that brings more improvements than a basic Service Pack, without being a full new version of the OS.
Windows Blue will mark a shift to annual updates, similar to how Apple releases OS X versions. It's expected to be a cheap upgrade, if not free, for Windows 8 users.

Windows 8 is fine... as long as you run the old desktop. The good thing is that w/ dual monitors the "modern" UI is so broken that staying on the desktop and using that metro thing as your start menu and search is easy enough. Before they add new things, FIX WHAT THEY CURRENTLY HAVE!
ReplyDeleteAll PCs are not glorified internet appliances, nor do they all have a single screen. Some people actually do work and use a windowed UI as it is intended... you know... with multiple windows open that are not full screen.
Honestly, if they'd just allow that modern UI to stay open when I click on the desktop (so I could leave it on my second monitor) I'd use it more. I use Rainmeter, did use widgets and like having info, feeds and system stats on a second monitor while surfing and gaming. Developing tends to cover much of that up at times, but still... That metro thing would fit the bill perfectly... but alas win 8 is still borked for that. It doesn't look like this update will change that.
Windows XP - Great
ReplyDeleteWindows Vista - Shit
Windows 7 - Great
Windows 8 - Shit
I guess we are following the normal pattern. I will be waiting for Windows 9, as long as you can easily bypass the metro UI.
funny, Stardock just released ModernMix, which goes a LOT further to fix the ills of The Modern UI than does Windows Blue. Geez MS, a $5 program is better than a full patch release for you guys. Get a clue...
ReplyDeleteare this is final version ..?
ReplyDeleteI think your right about the intelligence or lack there of.
ReplyDeleteSo much dichotomy over a GUI.
ReplyDeleteI was just setting a PC up for someone the other day and saw some xboxish like ad's somewhere in metro. I don't remember where it was, but I remember it distinctly reinforcing my dislike for windows 8. They weren't that intrusive, but it's just the fact that it means the beginning of ad's built into an OS which scares me.
